Message from Gayle Chan, APAfss gala chair

Our Gala would have been held on July 19.

Miss you all!

We are overwhelmed with gratitude by many of you sending donations and well wishes at this difficult time. At 6 pm this Sunday, please think of us and laugh out loud :) Let’s unite in laughter to celebrate the good and positive aspects of the current situation -- your caring assistance and the community that APAfss continues to serve.

We will acknowledge our donors in August. An early thank you to those who have already responded. Best wishes for good health and happiness!

COVID-19 Crisis

Our daily routines have been impacted with a new and fluid sense of normalcy during this pandemic and Shelter in Place order. Most people, but not all, can adapt and create new routines.

API Family Stressline can help
This is a crucial service during the pandemic. It is a collaborative project funded by SF Human Services Agency through First 5.

Who's providing the services?
The Stressline is operated by bilingual, bicultural staff from six human services community organizations, including APA Family Support Services. During this pandemic, the call volume has increased by 50%.

Faces of the API Family Stressline team (at meeting): They are staff from Asian and Pacific Islander community organizations providing informational resources and referrals in Chinese, Tagalog, Lao, Vietnamese, Khmer/Cambodian, and Samoan.

How are we helping?
Stressline staff actively listens to callers, providing emotional support, communication/ parenting strategies, and resource connections such as CalFresh, Food Pantry, and other resources during the wait on EDD payment, or assistance with unemployment applications.

Who are being served?
Most of our Stressline callers were working in the service industry like retail, food services, and hospitality; but lost their jobs or had to stop working during the Shelter in Place order. Some are struggling with mental health and wellness due to increased stress, anxiety, fear, and isolation from family.
