Celebrating Your Journey in June

As we celebrate Women Veterans Day this month, we pause to honor the extraordinary service, sacrifice, and strength of every woman who has worn the uniform. Thank you for showing up and standing together in sisterhood, in service, and beyond!

We can't wait to celebrate you at our WoVeN Women Veterans Day Celebration on June 6th!

(Registration is now full - thank you to all who signed up!)

This month, we also shine a light on PTSD Awareness Month. To every sister carrying invisible wounds, we see you, we honor your courage, and we stand with you. In the next section, you’ll find a meaningful WoVeN Research Opportunity focused on PTSD that may interest you.

And let’s not forget...

Happy 251st Birthday to the U.S. Army on June 14th!

We salute all our Army Soldier sisters and your powerful legacy.

This month is all about Service. Sisterhood. Connection.

Alright sisters, recon complete! Keep scrolling for details on our upcoming Peer Leader Meeting, the open-to-all WoVeN at Large gathering, and several exciting new group opportunities!

WoVeN Research Opportunity

Join a Study with Boston University and the Women Veterans Network (WoVeN)

We invite women Veterans who are struggling with the effects of a traumatic experience to participate in a Boston University research study.

Overview

We are conducting a study to learn more about how people feel about a self-help program for posttraumatic stress. Our goal is to see how this new kind of care compares to the usual ways people get help. We want to know if using a self-help program—either on your own or with peer support—can help people feel more connected and change the way they think about their trauma. The full study can be completed from your home!

Participation in the study includes completion of the following tasks:

  • Complete an eligibility assessment about your mental health through a virtual interview and survey.
  • Participate in 10 weeks of self-guided treatment (with or without peer support) or standard care.

  • Complete weekly surveys to track engagement and symptoms.

  • Complete follow-up assessments two weeks and 3 months after treatment.

  • Earn up to $325 for your time.

Call 617-435-2663 or email contact@wovenwomenvets.org for more information.

You may also complete this interest form and study staff will reach out to you

Creating Through Connection

This spring, our sisters continue showing up for one another and their communities.

In April, Dulce, Leta, Micki, Patricia, and Rhea rolled up their sleeves for a meaningful “Still Serving” Community Project at the Willing Warriors Retreat House. These five dedicated women spent the day giving back during the Retreat House’s Beautification Day by tackling gardening, yard work, and helping create a more beautiful space for fellow Veterans.

Even on a hot day, they worked together as a team and strengthened their bonds. As Dulce shared, they hope this becomes a regular activity for their group!

Showing up, working side by side, and continuing to serve beyond the uniform is what Still Serving is all about.

If you feel inspired, we encourage you to organize a Still Serving project in your own area! Whether it’s a cleanup, beautification project, community support event, or anything that calls to you, just gather your folks together and make it happen!

Ain't No Party Like a Week 8 Party!

We are excited to celebrate the incredible women who recently completed their 8-week journey, as well as the amazing Peer Leaders who guided them through the adventure:

Loretta & Anita – Group 368

Nakayla & LaShawn – Group 373

Lorria & Alotha Jené (Their very first group as Peer Leaders!) – Group 375

These women showed up with open hearts, shared their stories, and lifted one another through vulnerability, resilience, and connection. As Nakayla & LaShawn beautifully shared, "Their willingness to engage, listen, and lead with vulnerability embodies the true spirit of the WoVeN community."

What an honor to witness these powerful transformations.

Welcome to the next chapter of your WoVeN journey, ladies! 💜

Leading From the Front

We’re taking a moment this month to pause and extend a heartfelt Thank You to our incredible Peer Leaders. Your dedication, strength, and compassion are transforming lives as you guide women Veterans through their 8-week groups. Because of you, more of our sisters are finding connection, healing, and hope on their journey.

You’ve been showing up in powerful ways, and we see you.

And the need continues.

We still have women Veterans eager to join WoVeN groups, and they’re counting on leaders like you.

If you’re ready to make an impact again, we’d love for you to lead your next 8-week or Alumni group. Need a Co-Lead? Just join us at our monthly Peer Leader Meeting or connect in the WoVeN Peer Leader Facebook Group.

We're In This Together 🩵

June is PTSD Awareness Month, a time to spread the word and raise awareness about PTSD while offering hope that help and healing are possible.

As WoVeN sisters, we know that many women Veterans carry the invisible wounds of service. Whether you’re facing your own experiences or supporting a loved one, the VA has created a welcoming June calendar full of simple, daily ways to learn, connect, and take small steps forward. You’ll find easy actions like downloading the free PTSD Coach or PTSD Family Coach app, watching powerful Veteran recovery stories on AboutFace, exploring treatment options, practicing mindfulness, and taking the PTSD Self-Screen on June 27.

Visit www.ptsd.va.gov anytime and explore the full calendar, compare treatments, access self-help tools, and connect with care.

You are not alone. Healing is possible, and WoVeN is right here with you - every step of the way.
