Home Sweet Home

MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH

We witnessed and experienced the impact of the Black Lives Matter movement, the COVID-19 pandemic, the immigration border crisis, and the Anti-Asian hate rhetoric and violence over the past two years.

Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) are still dealing with the lasting impact of the surge in hate crime and harassment on their mental health.

In our “Hear Youth Out” Community Solidarity project, we have provided an opportunity for ways to help remind our AAPI families and community that we are in this together, and we will come out of this stronger. We asked our (younger) clients and their families what community (solidarity) means or looks like to them.

The “Hear Youth Out” Community Solidarity project is made possible through support from the Asian Pacific Fund and Sisters of the Holy Family.

Three Psychoeducation Parenting Groups will be held on May 12, 19, and 26. In each session via Zoom, parents will learn more about their children’s mental health and how to support them.

The workshops are funded by First5 SF and HSBC Bank (USA). Here is the link to the flyer

A 6-week Mental Wellness Workshop Series will be held every Thursday between May 26 to June 30. The last three of these hour-long sessions will focus on couples relationship.

The workshops are made possible through the support from Asian Pacific Fund and First5 SF. Here is the link to the flyer

Passing the Baton

I am very pleased to hand over the executive directorship to the capable hands of Fanny Lam. To ensure a smooth transition, I am at APA this month to provide consultation.

My best wishes to Fanny in leading APA and the continued success of the organization.

Stay safe!

Rick Yuen, Executive Director

Thank you, Rick, for guiding APA through the difficult COVID period. Over the past six years, I have had the privilege of getting to know APA, the dedicated staff, and the people we serve.
