GIVING THANKS

As the end of 2021 approaches, our team at APA would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to our donors, funders, and volunteers.

Your support enabled us to serve 8,000 children/families in FY 2020-21. This included Stress Line and mental health support; assistance for eviction negotiation with landlords and/or partial rent/utilities payment; isolation/quarantine information and support for high-need or immunocompromised families; case management and assistance for domestic violence survivors.

We look forward to your continued support in this year-end season of giving.

DID YOU KNOW?

In FY 2020-21, APA’s weekly Community Food Pantry at Visitacion Valley’s public housing site, in partnership with the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, distributed 396,679 pounds of produce & food, which equates to $656,995.

National Food Day is observed every October 24 to recognize that hunger and food insecurity impact every community. For more info: https://hungerandhealth.feedingamerica.org/understand-food-insecurity/

GIVING BACK

GivingTuesday is a movement created as a simple idea: a day to encourage people to do good. This year it is on November 30. Here are two causes we are requesting support for during this season of giving. Please give an amount you are comfortable with.

APA Family Support Services

10 Nottingham Place, San Francisco CA 94133

Our goals are:

• Provide holiday cheer care boxes to 300 of our highest-need clients.

• Lift the children’s spirits.

• Give these families something positive to look forward to.

Our budget is $75-$100 per box.

Volunteers and our staff will fill boxes with age-appropriate books and games/toys for the children along with essential supplies (such as personal/oral hygiene items, personal protective equipment, clothing, groceries, and blankets) for the family. With a rise in inflation, donations are even more crucial to help us meet this goal.

Venturing forth to normalcy in 2022...

Our goals are:

• Take clients and their young children to visit museums and parks in the Bay Area.

• Provide experiences they are not aware of and cannot afford so as to broaden horizons beyond their community.

Example: $500 will allow 10 families the opportunity to participate in an excursion.

OUT and ABOUT...

It's been over 19 months since our Discovery Land parent-child interactive group met in person. On October 26, our staff led a group of 13 parents and young kids on an outing to the Presidio to take in the outdoors.

Everybody exercised, sang and danced to music, and read stories. Parents commented that they finally feel free once again, being able to get out of the house and inhale some fresh air.

Enjoy the Holiday Season

We take this opportunity to wish you and yours a happy Thanksgiving and joyous holiday season. Here’s to a brighter 2022 for all!

Please remember APA when you are ready for your year-end giving.

We’ll be back in the new year with our February 2022 newsletter as we go quarterly.

Stay well,

Rick Yuen, Executive Director
