Job Opening at the San Mateo County Pride Center

We are currently looking to hire a case manager!

The LGBTQ+ Case Manager will provide affirming, strength-based holistic case management services to LGBTQ+ individuals and families. Most of the clients served will be from marginalized, stigmatized, and vulnerable populations and may have co-occurring disorders and trauma. The LGBTQ+ Case Manager will use an intersectional lens to conduct thorough assessments of clients’ needs and connect clients to appropriate local community resources to support their health and wellbeing. The LGBTQ+ Case Manager will also support in processing incoming referrals and client inquiries, including but not limited to scheduling and conducting initial screenings of clients requesting therapy and/or case management support. In this manner, we can better ensure that Pride Center clients can receive wraparound care upon first contact and more easily access the resources, providers, and/or services they may need.

Case management is a collaborative process that involves the coordination of community-based services and resources to provide support to individuals, partners, and families in need. The goal of the case management program is to enhance participants’ abilities to resolve issues, overcome obstacles, and lead fulfilling, productive lives. The LGBTQ+ Case Manager works closely with clients to create a client-centered, customized service plan that considers each person’s unique strengths, needs, and circumstances.

Deadline to apply is Monday, June 17

The San Mateo County Commission on the Status of Women is conducting a research project to determine the top two or three drivers of the financial wealth gap for women in San Mateo County. After completing our research, we will present recommendations to the Board of Supervisors of how they can address those drivers and decrease the wealth gap.

Our research over the past two years has informed us that while the wage gap still exists for California women of $.82 for every $1.00 earned by men, the wealth gap is an even greater concern. Single women own $.32 for every $1.00 owned by men, and the gap widens further for women of color, according to Asset Funders Network. Women need to fund a longer retirement on average than men and yet they lag behind in saving for retirement. More women have student loan debt compared to men.

Many women lost several years of income and savings due to the pandemic.

It is important to us to be inclusive and include the specific issues of trans women; in particular trans women business owners. We are reaching out to connect with some trans women or organizations that support and/or work with trans women, who would like to meet with us. We understand bandwidth issues; so to be respectful of time, we understand if email responses are easier.

As a start, here are some sample questions:

  • What do you think is the primary driver for these gaps and do you have any data regarding women in SMC that sheds light on this?
  • Are there some specific drivers that are different for trans women?
  • There are more women-owned businesses in CA than any other state in the US. Do you have any data on SMC trans women business owners' challenges to build wealth?
  • Do trans women-owned businesses have retirement plans? If not, why not? Are they aware of and signed up with CalSavers?
  • Do trans women say they need more financial education or financial coaching?
  • Are trans women more afraid or cautious about investing than men or non-trans women?
  • Who else would you suggest that we talk to for this information?

If folks have any questions, please reach out to Susan Takalo (she/her) at swillstakalo@gmail.com who can provide support.

During this talk, Molly will talk about her book: More, A Memoir of Open Marriage.

Molly Roden Winter was a mother of small children with a husband, Stewart, who often worked late. One night when Stewart missed the kids’ bedtime—again—she stormed out of the house to clear her head. At a bar, she met Matt, a flirtatious younger man. When Molly told her husband that Matt had asked her out, she was surprised that Stewart encouraged her to accept.

So began Molly’s unexpected open marriage and, with it, a life-changing journey of self-discovery.

Molly shares her experiences in More, A Memoir of Open Marriage. It is an electric debut that offers both steamy fun and poignant reflections on motherhood, daughterhood, marriage, and self-fulfillment. With warmth, humor, and style, Molly Roden Winter delivers an unputdownable journey of a woman becoming her most authentic self.
