APA Gala Counting Down

In two days APA will be celebrating our 31st anniversary at the Green Room, on July 22. If you are attending the Gala, we look forward to seeing you soon!

Gala sponsors and donors have been generously supporting our fundraising efforts. Every donation, big and small, that comes in throughout the year means more support, supplies, and resources for families in need. During the last fiscal year which ended on June 30, $254,000 has been raised for programs and operations support, and for the Building Fund. This new fiscal year, we are receiving support of nearly $70,000 to date. Additional revenues will be generated through raffle sales and silent auction at the Gala. Please look for our post-gala silent auction via email.

Families need and seek help from us to deal with the stress they are encountering, stress that can strain and potentially destroy these families and harm their vulnerable children. One of APA’s programs supported by your generous support is community-based behavioral health counseling services for clients. (Please see Behavioral Health Matters story below).

We would like to express our utmost gratitude to Title Sponsor Sutter Health CPMC. Cecilia Thomas, Community Health Program Manager, of CPMC, pictured below with Amor Santiago, APA's Executive Director, is a longtime supporter of our agency. We also owe our highest gratitude to Platinum Sponsor Cathay Bank and the Robert Joseph Louie Memorial Foundation for their support of our programs. We thank the Vincent V.C. Woo Foundation for donating to our Building Fund.

Many thanks to 2018's Gold Sponsors/Donors ASAM, LLP/Joyce Tso/Julia Luk; Gayle Chan and Cory Chen; Recology; SHP Foundation; and Western States Petroleum Association.

Our thanks to the support of Silver Sponsors/Donors CTBC Bank USA; First Republic Bank/Jacqueline Huie; Kaiser Permanente; Drs. Richard & Susanne Lee; Wayne & Clare Leung; Preferred Bank; Venable Foundation; and Wells Fargo Foundation.

Lastly, we are extremely grateful for our volunteers who generously donate their time and resources to help make our Gala event a reality.

PROGRAM NEWS

Behavioral Health Matters

Many of the children, teens, adults and families we work with have experienced incredible challenges and trauma in their lives. As a consequence, their academics, relationships, and work are negatively impacted. With language and financial barriers as well as cultural stigmas, their mental health needs are often unmet. For 20 years, APA has been providing community-based behavioral counseling health services to our clients. We are dedicated to offer culturally sensitive individual and group therapy to help clients manage difficult feelings, so they can attend to their lives in healthier, more productive, and successful ways.

Staffed by interns, licensed eligible, and licensed clinicians, we have provided services to low income individuals and families in Chinatown since 1988. In 2012, we opened our Visitacion Valley Family Center, and these services became available to the Visitacion Valley community. Here’s how we are helping: J, a 12-year-old boy, is referred to us for aggressive behavior with his peers and...
